Hi guys!
I've got to write this quickly, so there are many more details my indecisive self needs input from you on, but here's this for now.
There is a second grade position open at an Expeditionary Learning charter school in Gallup. I think I can get the job if I commit to being enrolled in a program to obtain my elementary license. (one class a semester at the local college.)
It would be awesome EL experience, and I could potentially be k-12 certified. So, I'm really leaning towards it.
BUT, now I need more of a push by getting inspiration, because I am completely terrified and need something to help me take the leap into the teaching world. I am looking for resources that you guys have found useful. Are there any books, websites, blogs, etc. that are inspiring and really useful?
Also, anything you guys know and feel about teaching second grade? The concept of teaching reading is terrifying to me!
Just wondering what you think and find really helpful when teaching elementary.
I love you and hope you are all enjoying your summer vacations! Thank you for the help.
love,
melissa
Hey Melissa! I teach second grade, so this is very exciting for me to hear! I have so many things I would love to share with you, I do not even know where to start. If you text, call, or e-mail me I am willing to talk your ears off about teaching second grade (it's the best)!
ReplyDeleteYou would absolutely be an amazing 2nd grade teacher! And an awesome reading teacher bc you love to read and your kids will be inspired by your enthusiasm and excitement for books! I teach third so em def knows more than me regarding content! If you want some books that have been super helpful with teaching reading, I'd pick fontas and pinell's teaching for comprehension and fluency and their continuum of GR if your school does guided reading. they're probably expensive but you don't need the newest edition but they've been extremely helpful with reading instruction. Also! Use google there are some awesome blogs from teachers with some really good stuff!! I'm so excited for you!!
