Graduation Shindig!

Why hello there!

I am inviting you all to join me at my home in Cheshire on Friday May 11th at 4:00pm to celebrate graduation with a good ol' cookout. You're welcome to come stop by for a bit or hang out the whole night. We'll have dogs, burgers, veggies, beer, etc. I will buy some beer for games, but be sure to bring plenty of adult beverages for yourself. There will surely be yard activities as well so practice up on your croquet. Just let me know by graduation if you'll be coming so I can plan accordingly (email is fine).

I hope to see you all there :)

Finals Week (but not really)

Hi!!

So some of us were planning to do some fun things this week...I know not all of us are up here this week but I just wanted to throw it out there..

Maybe bowling Tuesday or Wednesday night..but maybe not Tuesday since some of our colleagues are doing great things like demo lessons..

I think on Thursday we were going to go to Manchester to go to the Painting Picasso place...if its anything like Plaster Funtime, it's this awesome place where you can paint a ceramic piece of anything you want and then they'll fire it and make it sparkly and it's fun..great bonding..very mature for grad students.

On Friday I think we might be going wine-tasting at a nearby vineyard..if anyone is interested throw out a time that might work...

Also on Friday at Woodhaven we're having a slumber party thingy so we can decorate our caps and watch movies and drink wine and be merry...if any of you commuters wants to stay at Em and I's place you're welcome to the night before graduation..

I think on Saturday someone mentioned breakfast somewhere...lots of details on that I just gave you..I know.

If anyone has suggestions for times for Painting Picasso or wine tasting (or times you can't go, but you'd like to) put it in a comment...

Ramble over.

Love,
Ashley

PS..I really do love you guys.

Hostelworld emails make me depressed :(

Hi Julia,
Do you remember what you were doing this time last November. We do - you were planning a trip to Paris, France. Ahhhh…the days of meeting new people from all over the world, trying out new types of food and sampling the local nightlife. Things haven’t changed since you last travelled. Hostels are still the best types of accommodation in the world to meet people, they still offer private rooms as well as shared rooms, and they still have staff that will go out of their way to make your stay one you won’t forget.

So, what are you waiting for?

Our New Baby Katherine!!

Hey guys,

Right when I came home from Toms house today I received this e-mail about our sponsor child. I will send you a full e-mail answering all of your questions from today, but I thought you would want to see this! YAY

Hi Carly,

We have a child, Katherine, in second grade in Gladys' class that is a very vulnerable child.  Gladys says that she really loves school and comes every day even with the challenges she is facing.  As soon as school opens up May 7th, we'll get you a full bio and some fresh photos.

Thanks so much again for sponsoring!!

Peace,
Lisa

Calendarsss

...Obviously I'm not working on any actual work/cleaning my room/packing/laundry..because it was IMPERATIVE this calendar business got figured out...on the right hand column you'll see a link to a calendar page...that is where our calendar is...but you have to add events/edit from the shared gmail...umm yeah..see you guys manana!

Notifications

Hey guys,

So I think I figured this notification thing out. For one, I set up everyone as an administrator so you can post from your regular Gmail account...aka you don't have to be signed in to the joint Gmail to post.

Along the same lines, you can post a comment signed in to your gmail account and it should show up as your name.

I set it up so that everyone will either get an email when someone posts or when someone comments.  Unfortunately I could only add 10 people to get email notifications.  So 10 of you will get emails to your personal emails when someone posts and the three of us will get emails when someone comments on the posts. I'm realllly sorry about that, but I couldn't figure out any other way.

I'm trying to figure out this calendar business...stay tuned...I guess you have to since you're getting emails! HA!

A London Poem by Chrissy

Hi guys!

So for my Children's Literature class I had to write a book, and I decided to write a bunch of poems from my student's perspective.. I wrote one called Ms. America and wanted to share it with you!!

Ms. America

Who is this new teacher?
Her accent is absurd
She uses all kinds of
crazy new words!
Jumpers are "sweaters"
the "bathroom" means the loo
She even has new words
to use for our shoes
Trainers are "sneakers"
and wellies are "rain boots"
She calls a swimming costume
a "bathing suit!"
She told us her name
but it's really hard to say
So we'll call her Ms. America
From the good old U.S.A.
This teacher is strange
but she's also quite sweet
I think having her in our room
will be quite a treat!

:)

Weaving a New Beginning

Hey guys,

A few years back my mom started to give presentations to different Rotary Clubs in our area about Chikumbuso. She met this guy and he has become a huge supporter of the project. Last year his son Tucker Walsh went to Chikumbuso for a few weeks and while he was there he decided he wanted to do his senior thesis with the focus on the impact Chikumbuso has made in the community. He has been working forever on this video and he did an amazing job. This video takes a look at the life of a woman in Chikumbuso, and a women living in N'gombe compound that has not joined Chikumbuso. It shows the difference in these two widows lives, and how Chikumbuso has changed them. ENJOY :)

London 14's (Possible) Blog!

Hey guys, this might be a platform we could use for our blog and for staying in touch.  Blogger used to be blogspot and it's convenient because it's like attached to gmail which we all have now.   Something I like about blogspot more than tumblr is that you can leave comments right under the post, which is nice...you can leave comments on tumblr, but in a weird convoluted way.  The user interface on this isn't as straightforward as on tumblr...but that's just my opinion...I think either one will work great since the main purpose is for us to love each other forever!
